Hush Hush Becca Fitzpatrick Books
Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick deserves a solid 5 star rating! Just the prologue is intense enough to make me want to read the book in one sitting. I have heard nothing but great things about the Hush, Hush series from my library patrons. Nora and Vee are best friends in their sophomore year of high school. A new student, Patch, becomes Nora's desk partner in biology class. He is mysterious and stubborn and Nora finds him exasperating, but there is something about him that won't let Nora get Patch out of her mind. Strange things keep happening to her, causing her to be spooked and cautious. She meets Elliot, a new student and she believes he's hiding a sinister past. The mystery builds and, as Nora touches Patch's v-shaped scar on his back, she gets pulled into a vision. The danger and suspense become intense and Nora finally learns the truth about her past and Patch's. 5 stars for this engrossing supernatural story!Tags : Amazon.com: Hush, Hush (9781416989417): Becca Fitzpatrick: Books,Becca Fitzpatrick,Hush, Hush,Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers,1416989412,JUV037000,Fantasy - General,Romance - General,Angels,Angels;Fiction.,Best friends,Dating (Social customs),Dating (Social customs);Fiction.,Friendship,High schools,Paranormal fiction,Schools,Supernatural,Supernatural;Fiction.,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 10-12),Fantasy & magical realism (Children's Teenage),Fiction,Love & Romance,Paranormal,Paranormal; angel; fallen angel; Patch; Nora; Becca Fitzpatrick; romance; forbidden; dangerous; Nephilim; scars; wings,Social Themes - Friendship,YOUNG ADULT FICTION,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Fantasy General,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Mysteries & Detective Stories,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Paranormal, Occult & Supernatural,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Romance General,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Romance Paranormal,Young Adult FictionMysteries & Detective Stories,Young Adult FictionParanormal, Occult & Supernatural,Love & Romance,Paranormal,Social Themes - Friendship,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Fantasy General,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Mysteries & Detective Stories,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Paranormal, Occult & Supernatural,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Romance General,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Romance Paranormal,Young Adult FictionMysteries & Detective Stories,Young Adult FictionParanormal, Occult & Supernatural,Fiction,YOUNG ADULT FICTION,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 10-12),Fantasy & magical realism (Children's Teenage)
Hush Hush Becca Fitzpatrick Books Reviews
If you're an adult looking for a paranormal series, this is not for you. I almost didn't finish this because of the whiny irritating teenagers.
With that being said, the story is ok...I nearly gave up on it, because the first half of the book didn't progress much with the actual story. Like most adults, when you want to know something, you step right up and ask. Nora, talks about it night and day in her head and assumes all kinds of things instead of nipping her concerns in the bud and just ask what the hell is going on.
This is the main reason I couldn't stand the main character Nora. She was very annoying and so was Vee. Drove me nuts. Finally the book started getting into the background of Patch and the fallen angel part of the story and if the writer hadn't started finally answering a lot of the questions going on, I would have quit reading this.
At least the second half had a little more action and got everyone confronting the actual problems instead of just "thinking" about it 24/7.
I can't really say whether this is a good book for 12-15 year old's or not, but I thought Nora and her friend Vee were extremely irritating.
Not for grown-up's. Ages 12-15
I personally love this book. It's a great thrilling, romantic, funny and everyone can relate to parts of it. Ok so I love to read. I've read 24 books this school year, and I've gotta say this is one of the best. This, Maximum Ride by James Paterson, The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan, and The Giver by Lois Lowry. So if your looking for a book with character, suspense, and drama, READ THIS BOOK.
***SPOILER FREE***
I've mostly heard awful reviews for this book and because of that I almost never read it. Personally, I thought it was a pretty good book! I didn't think it was cheesy, or poorly written. It was a little slow moving for probably half of the book, but it still held my attention and I was totally hooked the entire time. Some stuff was a little predictable, but some stuff I totally didn't see coming and was pleasantly surprised by some of the events revealed near the end.
I had been reading a lot of romance novels lately and was so over books where the entire story-line is the love story between the two characters. Where the whole book is how they are thinking of each other, wanting to be with each other, and nothing else in between. I needed a story that was about more than just that. I loved how this book had a very slow, believable build-up to a romantic relationship and even then, it still isn't the fore-front of the entire story. It was a nice change.
I was not impressed with the audiobook, though. The lady's voice is beautiful and has real potential. Unfortunately, she just puts emphasis on the wrong words in the wrong places of sentences and I found myself trying to re-do the tone in my mind over and over again. I also hated how much of an air head she made Vee out to be and how Patch's voice always sounded bored. It made it hard to fall for him in the story. If she can get the tone of her characters under control and put the correct emphasis on words in the right places in sentences, then I think she'll be an amazing narrator! I didn't have a lot of time to read this myself and since I didn't like the narrator, I listened to other books in between trying to find time to read this one myself. While listening to other books, I was wishing I could be reading this one. My point being, that it was good enough that when I wasn't reading it, I was thinking about it and really wanting to read it to find out what was going on.
3.5-4.0 Stars
I enjoyed it. I was surprised to find it's pretty long page wise because I flew through it so quickly. It's definitely not perfect, but it's really entertaining for what it is, meaning it's heavily centered on the budding romance. If you're looking for really intensive and detailed world building and mythology, this series isn't going to have it. I really liked Patch's character because he doesn't become a different guy just because of Nora, he's not suddenly a sappy, diluted version of his former sarcastic bad boy self. Nora is the character I had a few issues with. Overall, I like her. She has a good heart and she's likable enough. But her naivete gets annoying, and she makes a few really stupid decisions. What 16 year old has a curfew of 10 pm in the summer? Nora's mother is annoying and rude (if my mother had asked my friend what his GPA was the first time she met him when I was 16, I would have flipped out). Her best friend is really funny, so she makes up for the mom, and she appears way more in the story. There is a lot of set up, therefore it takes a while for the plot to get moving, so I get the complaints about not enough happening, but I actually appreciate the author's attempt to not rush things, too. The romance along with the mystery that is Patch are the central focuses of the story. There's no love triangle (yet anyways). So if that's not your thing, but you like YA romance with a paranormal twist, this may be for you.
I will be reading the second book in this series, I'm intrigued by this one and want to see where everything goes.
